Light Meter for those of us who still shoot film, you will fall in love with this little app. opens up your camerea and features three little dials at the bottom of the screen for shutter speed, aperture and film speed. so lets say youre shooting 16hundo cuz youre a champ, after you dial it in, you can scroll through different apertures and watch as shutter speeds adjust correspondingly. genius.

Photosynth is a panorama creator, what sets this one apart is that it  can stitch together shots taken both horizontally and vertically.

eeve and Clusterpic are both photosharing apps that i downloaded thinking that i had friends. eeve is an invite only app that operates under the ideal situation of a group of people throwing out photos to each other at some sort of gathering. i dont really use it at all but the interface is suuuper clean and i love the icon (and spying on hipsters in germany eating breakfast at some bizarre  berlin cafe is kind of cool). Clusterpic is my ideal photosharing app. let’s say you have a bunch of friends in town for a weekend, or theres a carload of you all heading to the same house party. y’all download clusterpic, turn it on, and from there on out all the pictures from all the users signed into a certain album will all be shared, live, until you all sign out. you realize the immediate benefits: a) generally people are too lazy/embarassed to share all the pictures they take in a night b) you get pictures before they are “previewed” by the taker c) you get pictures of you not taken by you! d) fun for hangovers and black out recalls.

m-m-m-mooovin on, bandcamper, do i like it? sure. do i recommend it? not really. essentially its a hodge podge of up and coming (mostly terrible) bands, but its fun to browse through when im waiting in the car for someone (you got to wait in the car a lot for someones?) and you can hear omar rodriguez & john frusciante’s album they did together for free. categorizable by location so you can discover new and undiscovered rap in north carolina if youre so inclined.

Discovr Apps is super neat, but unfortunately, im 60% sure its no longer free. heres a screen shot. you tap on apps and it shows you apps that its related to. then you hit one of those and so on until infinity. one tap shows you a description, and my favorite feature, if you dont want to download them just yet, it can save them in a wishlist.

HSW is the app for howstuffworks.com, podcasts video, audio and text. you can listen to them while you do needlepoint and pretend to get smarter at the same time. i listened to a show about the oprah show. justice was served.

how trover works is people around you upload pictures of something they seen. you click on the picture and there it is on a map. you dont need an account to peep shit, which is great. i discovered a cutty ass thrift store using this, and its the one exception when people taking pictures of what they ate isnt 1000% annoying.

OH MAGOD, mobli. mobli. is. the. best. not. best. app. ever. about a billion moblis exist, they just have different names. im under the impression that instagram might work the same way where people upload photos and videos onto their “channels” which are then divisible into “streams” by their subject matter, and then you follow the streams or channels and  youre also given screens of popular shit, trending tags and people with a grip of followers. standard, or so it would seem. what sets mobli apart is that theres a group of diehard users that seem to have been using the program since its advent and they are all BAT SHIT CRAZY. most are nerds who couldnt garner enough friends in real life to add to their facebook so they turned to the global world of strangers supporting each other with upthebuttwithsunshineandrainbows type comments.

but they have a queen. who posts videos of herself speaking in a screeching british accent as a queen. like from medieval times. she also happens to be the mother of B celebrity Lukas Haas who starred in Lady in White or something when he was a little ass kid and was in the beginning of Inception. im pretty sure his mom wants to get picked up as an actress cuz she constantly posts videos of herself speaking in different accents, with wigs and mustaches and shit on, and singing really really really terribly. their relationship MUST involve sexual favors or soemthing uncomfortably close cuz theres noWAY he would be tolerating her shit if they werent getting weird.

also i watch the ongoing love saga of a “proffessional” magician and the girl who left him comments on his first video, after which he promptly made a response video and dedicated his next show (in real life) to.

Quizarium ive never used. supposedly you battle rando’s in multiple choice trivia questions. downloaded it a few weeks ago. too scared to turn it on.

USPS Mobile useful to find the closest post office, and its hours. you can do other shit on it, but i wont.

iCrates is fantastically sick. it’s supposed to be a digger’s app, in that you pull it out when youre record shopping, and itll tell you if you struck gold in terms of rarity and value. i dont need that shit to know. but if youre trying to score cool points or ebay dough then its up your alley and around the corner. use it to keep lists of artists and labels and shit too.

THEN theres the other half of the app which is a hell of good music magazine written by music nazis that cover new and old and mostly rare. reviews, and dy-no-mite interviews, tons of videos and old 45s uploaded.

lastly, there’s imo, for all your chat services put together. ichat/aim/gmail/whatever. sign in to all of them and have all your buddylists smashed together without having to flick through different programs to talk to em.

oh yeah, ideablender in the upper.. right. doesnt fucking work. its supposed to be some sort of list companies post “challenges”/problems they cant fix and offers of upwards of hundreds to thousands of dollars if you can come up with a solution to them. i keep it in hopes that itll someday turn itself on. that and the icons cool.
